About GBU

GBU was founded by Chris Hawke in the mid-2000s as an acronym for Golden Boys USA. His original vision — to create highly curated, dynamic, and sex-positive nightlife experiences — remains at the heart of GBU today. Inspired by the private men’s clubs of Europe, GBU has grown into a longstanding institution in NYC nightlife and beyond.

Marc James first met Chris Hawke in October 2022 after years of attending GBU events as a guest. Drawn to Chris’ vision and the world he had built, Marc quickly saw the potential to expand GBU nationally and internationally. The two soon realized they were a formidable creative partnership, with Marc stepping into the role of lead producer shortly thereafter.

GBU arrived in Miami in January 2023, quickly expanding into Fort Lauderdale and rebranding as GBU SoFlo by May of that year. With alternating monthly events across both cities, GBU rapidly established itself as a defining presence in the South Florida scene.

Chris’ iconic vision, combined with Marc’s background in entertainment production and business, became the driving force behind GBU’s next phase of expansion.

In October 2023, GBU launched in West Hollywood and immediately resonated with the Los Angeles nightlife community. Following overwhelming demand, GBU soon relocated to a larger purpose-built venue in DTLA, where it now resides.

With recent launches in London and San Francisco, GBU continues its ambitious expansion across the U.S. and internationally.

The following is the driving force underpinning everything we do.

GBU's mission is to create a safe, inclusive, vibrant and exhilarating space where guys can explore and celebrate their sexuality without judgment, shame or inhibition. GBU culture essentials

Communication

GBU expects participants to prioritize CLEAR COMMUNICATION (verbal or non-verbal) throughout the party. This includes openly discussing boundaries and expectations before engaging in sexual activity. Communication is important for obtaining enthusiastic consent and ensuring that everyone involved feels comfortable and respected.

Respect for boundaries

GBU fosters a CULTURE OF RESPECT for personal boundaries and individual autonomy. Participants should honor each other's limits and preferences without pressuring or coercing anyone into activities they are not comfortable with. This includes respecting non-verbal cues and body language which may indicate discomfort or unwillingness.

Continuous consent

GBU emphasizes the importance of ONGOING CONSENT throughout the duration of the party. Participants should understand that consent is dynamic and can be withdrawn at any time. GBU encourages attendees to check-in with their partners regularly and respect their decisions, even if they differ from initial agreements.

Mutual respect

GBU is an anti-racist organization and rejects discriminatory behavior in all forms. GBU promotes an environment where all participants are treated with respect. Participants are encouraged to challenge and address any instances of disrespect or prejudice they encounter during a GBU party.

Education

GBU provides access to resources and information surrounding consent, sexual health, and personal safety, helping guests navigate the space with confidence, awareness, and respect for one another.
